The Sun enters Aquarius at 4:43 a.m. with the Moon on its heels at 7:59 a.m. In short time, the Aquarius New Moon occurs at 8:14 a.m. ET. Aquarius is known in popular culture for its unusual or unexpected quality. There is certainly that piece to it, as the New Moon jogs a fresh orientation or may present a unique slant on an old situation. This energy is why the planet Uranus is often linked to Aquarius.

Discovered at the time of the American and French revolutions, Uranus represents freedom and inspiration. Uranus stirs the soul as the Great Awakener; if its orbit hits a point on your personal horoscope, a light flashes, if only temporarily. Uranus is the planet with an axis of rotation at a sideways tilt. As a result, its north and south poles lie where most other planets have their equators.

founding-fathersSo an Aquarius New Moon is a wonderful time to embark on an innovative project. The traditional planet linked to Aquarius (believe it or not) is Saturn, the Great Taskmaster. Aquarians usually have very rigid routines, regardless of how eccentric or unfathomable they may seem to others.

An Aquarian’s way of planning strategy looks different than a Capricorn (the other sign to which Saturn is linked) but that’s because the Capricorn has a predictable and somewhat transparent way of accomplishing a goal or vision. An Aquarian on the other hand, considers options and sifts through the new idea while at the same time, holding fast to the tried and true routine (no matter how kooky). When s/he is finally satisfied that the new path must be ventured, action is taken immediately. This can leave observers in shock because it seemed to come out of nowhere. But the Aquarian actually makes a calculated move.

Uranus is in Aries now, a fire sign. Although it doesn’t make any direct connections with the New Moon, it does indicate a need to look at the big picture. Every individual life has an impact even in a small way. To deny this truth is to deny the Self and stifle the Divinity within.

Saturn has moved into Sagittarius, also a fire sign and it buoys up the New Moon with its “can do” support. This New Moon has lots of fire behind it, bringing in the heat to help forge the impulse for daring new beginnings.

La_Purisima_MissionThe Sabian Symbol** for this Aquarius New Moon is: “An old adobe mission”. The image conjures a structure baked by the sun, fashioned by the ancient community that lived within its walls. The mission may still be in use, or it may be left to the desert. Regardless, it represents a group that thrived on working together.

Use this New Moon’s platform to allow you to connect with a community with which you share a “mission”. Use it also to collect different pieces within you to work for a specific goal. This is essential for someone who feels that something is getting lost because of the demands of one big goal. Find a way to spark those parts that feel neglected.

Finally, this Aquarius New Moon has a big kick of Love with it, since it will make a picture with Venus before it leaves this sign. Love is what attracts all Abundance to our lives, because when we are open to love, there is no dam to our ability to receive. It is only when we allow reciprocity that we can truly give and receive.

This Aquarius New Moon is an excellent harbinger for next month when the Pisces New Moon ushers in the Chinese New Year of the Sheep: a year whose tone is Peace and Co-working. For New Moon abundance checks methods

** We are still in the process of understanding the Sabian symbols, which were channeled in 1925. The spiritualist astrologer Marc Edmund Jones, took Elsie Wheeler, a clairvoyant confined to a wheelchair to a San Diego park with a project. He put a symbol for each of the 360° of the zodiacal wheel on 360 cards. She proceeded to come up with visual phrases for each one of them. They were done in random order and they have a magic that is hard to decipher, yet feels totally right.
