friday_13thFriday the 13th: Astrology MAY 13, 2016

Theories abound as to why Friday the 13th is considered unlucky. The superstition is relatively modern, not having much reference prior to the mid-nineteenth century.

Of course, Friday is thought to be the day Jesus was slaughtered and when devout Catholics used to abstain from meat. The number 13 has negative associations from that story as well. The 13th member of the Last Supper, Judas, was the betrayer.

From my perspective as an astrologer, Friday the 13th is a good day, unless other factors mitigate its overall vibe. It is Venus’ day. The goddess of love and beauty is a perfect choice to open the weekend.

Also Friday is Freyja’s day, the powerful goddess in Norse mythology. Her domain also was love, beauty, fertility and gold… but Friday may get some of its shadow legacy from her: Freyja oversaw war and death.

Yet the number 13 is the amount of new moons in a lunar calendar. When you consider that and the goddess influence, Friday the 13th is imbued with energy of the feminine: Moon and Venus.

The morning’s Leo Moon suggests that emotions snarl clear communications.

Listen with care and take time to labor the point, although this may be awkward it’s preferable to missing it. Sudden insight or a surprise can change the whole landscape. Use this in an inspired way to bring resolution.

Although it is best to avoid important meetings or make promises at this time, a Mercury/Venus picture enhances intimate conversation. If you make art of any kind or write, this can be a fabulous period of rambling productivity.

A Venus/Pluto picture suggests that romance may have a magnetic quality, as can talk of finances. Enjoy the depth and mystery of the evening but save any investment for the brightness of morning.

*Moon VOC/Void-of-Course… in Leo, you do well to play: window-shop, go to a museum or performance, flirt, and make some artwork. Get in touch with a spirit of generosity; warm people with compliments. Observe whether or not you get the appreciation you require and if not, give yourself a lift. More about the Moon VOC
