Forecast 12/28 The last Full Moon of 2012 is in the sign of Cancer.
Send out important correspondence, calls and solidify plans in the early morning before the void. The moon is “void-of’course” VOC* at 9:43 a.m. ET through the next day! This sets up a mood of reflection and nesting.
Be alert to your response to events or conversations over this period; emotions tend to rule over reason, which is not always the most level course.
If you’re feeling sensitive and want to be with loved ones, this is a perfect holiday weekend to make that happen. If however, you feel vulnerable and need to protect yourself from old hurts, plan to be somewhere with people who support you. Memories may be particularly intense this weekend.
The Sabian Symbol** for the degree of this moon is: “Rabbits dressed in clothes and on parade”. One reason I adore this image is that it seems so incongruous for those of us in a NE winter.
When coupled with the symbol for the Sun’s degree it’s even more surreal: “Birds in the house singing happily”. I think of Peter Rabbit and Snow White being courted by songbirds. These are indeed strange pictures as we ride through the intensity of this Full Moon.
When we think of the origins of many fairy tales, they were cautionary stories with mythical overtones to teach lessons and put things in perspective. Although both these symbols seem benign, there are many layers to them. The first is face-value, which makes them seem carefree and playful.
Another layer is the reference to fairy tales, and thinking of the near-death experiences of Peter Rabbit when he encountered Farmer MacGregor. In the place of symbolism to the moon, the rabbits remind us of the causes to celebrate when we are snugly dressed and well-fed.
We have an urge to protect the small and innocent. When we feel safe, our love magnifies like the easy procreation of rabbits. Yet we live in a time when feeling safe is not a simple reflex.
On the side of the sun, birds in the house is not a norm, although it does suggest an environment where nature is allowed to co-exist within civilization. Taking the images even further, we can see a world where animals are the top of the food chain and there is no place for humans to interact.
So what does this mean? With the full moon in line with Pluto and the conflict from Uranus, this is a very loaded full moon- we are being asked to look at the long-term consequences of our spontaneous impulses and to come to terms with that.
Yes, this certainly means our responsibility to the planet, but it also concerns every individual’s impulses weighed against accountability.
On one hand, this may feel like an impossible reckoning; on the other it’s a reminder that each one of us has a tremendous effect on what happens around us. We may be just a flash of light here on earth, but that lightning can rock the world. As we see this happen in negative ways, our need to magnify the positive increases.
*Moon VOC/Void-of- Course… in Cancer, be by the water, time with family or sifting through memorabilia. May be a lovely time to enjoy a picnic or meal with no time constraints.
** We are still in the process of understanding the Sabian symbols, which were channeled in 1925. The spiritualist astrologer Marc Edmund Jones, took Elsie Wheeler, a clairvoyant confined to a wheelchair to a San Diego park with a project. He put a symbol for each of the 360∞ of the zodiacal wheel on 360 cards. She proceeded to come up with visual phrases for each one of them. They were done in random order and they have a magic that is hard to decipher, yet feels totally right.
