6/12/2010 As we approach the New Moon in Gemini, I have to tell you something.

The Sabian symbols have been enjoying a lot of attention in the astrology blogs lately, and I suspect Uranus’ pass in Pisces had a bit to do with it. We are still in the process of understanding the symbols, which were revealed the last time Uranus was in that sign.

In 1925, the spiritualist astrologer Marc Edmund Jones, took Elsie Wheeler, a clairvoyant confined to a wheelchair to a San Diego park with a project. He put a symbol for each of the 360° of the zodiacal wheel on 360 cards. She proceeded to come up with channeled visual phrases for each one of them. They were done in random order and they have a magic that is hard to decipher, yet feels totally right.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

At 7:15 am ET, the New Moon in Gemini is exact at 21°24″. The Sabian symbol for that degree is “A barn dance”.

The New Moon in Gemini traditionally encourages plans for communication, writing projects, and relationships with neighbors and siblings. This year it is imperative to understand any anger or passion that may be under the surface of what is actually articulated.

The position of the New Moon set for Washington DC suggests hidden enemies. The mood of the people is not easily expressed (this might be changeability or inability to find it in the news). Yet the symbolism of women and children is very strong. There will be continual messages from the voices of women demanding change. Some of it will be quite volatile. Much of it will be grassroots, pulled together through writing, teleseminars, and blogs.

I love the reminder of “a barn dance” because a barn is the shelter for food and the tools that create food. Yet with all the agendas and mixed signals (and symbolized in this chart), I thought of this dance scene which choreographed beautifully the drama of men vying for ladies. The cost of their passion is the destruction of the barn. When you do your meditation on the New Moon, or plan what’s ahead, know that it will be a dance to keep clear and focused. Remember to have fun with it and keep your smile.

The Moon is VOC* from 7:35 pm to 9:50 pm ET when it then enters Cancer. This can indicate an emotionally tumultuous evening. After such a roller-coaster day a bath, evening swim or dining by the water can be just the salve that heals.

*Void of Course: the moon will make no other geometric connection to any planet before it moves into the next sign. More about VOC.
