Forecast 8/17 A Sun/Saturn picture emphasizes the availability of constructive energy. You can build a big dream with this New Moon.

The exact time of the Leo New Moon is 11:54 am ET. Choose your goals with awareness of Leo’s guidelines.

What’s your creative vision?
You don’t have to be an artist, writer, musician; anyone can draft out concentric circles for manifesting goals: the first circle– what can you accomplish this month? Around it the second circle– what is your longer-term goal that has to do with creativity, play, risks or romance?… this is for your lunar year. And finally, what’s the life-vision in these themes?

Reflect on where you were last year around this time- how consciously were you planning these things? The more conscious you are, the less life simply happens to you.

The Sabian Symbol** for this New Moon is “A rainbow”. Rainbows are so rich in symbolism: pots of gold on the other side, Oz, the signal that the storm is over and the realization of dreams.

But there are a few more symbols that may not come as quickly to mind, depending on your cultural background. One is the Rainbow Bridge from Indian tribal beliefs that aids in the journey between this lifetime and the afterlife. Animals and ancestors support the journey.

The rainbow is also indicative of accepting people of different races and sexual orientations, popular in the gay community and welcoming religious congregations.

Iris- Mythic Tarot

In Greek mythology, the rainbow was the vehicle through which the goddess Iris communicated messages for the gods. She is an older myth than Hermes/Mercury who eventually became the favorite in stories (as society grew more patriarchal).

Nonetheless, her rainbow calling card reminds us that Hope is in every message, no matter how bleak it originally appears.

She is a powerful archetype for women writers, healers and communicators. Like Mercury, Iris was a psychopomp (an escort for a soul to enter the afterlife). Because we are in such a profound time of Shift 2012, every new beginning casts an irretrievable shadow on what you leave behind.

Rainbows are bridge symbols for these irrevocable transitions. Leo is an actively creative sign, the sign linked to children. Of course, children are our creative wellspring without which our human race would truly die. This is not however, just about an actual child.

Awaken the child within this Leo New Moon, especially if you have ignored or suppressed any strong desires of creation in this lifetime. It is time to move forward and follow your rainbow.

The moon is void-of-course (VOC)* from 1:55 pm to 8:33 pm ET.
The Virgo moon comes in at 8:33 pm, bringing some quiet focus to the end of the day.

*Moon VOC/Void-of-Course… in Leo, you do well to play: window-shop, go to a museum or performance, flirt, make some artwork.

** We are still in the process of understanding the Sabian symbols, which were channeled in 1925. The spiritualist astrologer Marc Edmund Jones, took Elsie Wheeler, a clairvoyant confined to a wheelchair to a San Diego park with a project. He put a symbol for each of the 360∞ of the zodiacal wheel on 360 cards. She proceeded to come up with visual phrases for each one of them. They were done in random order and they have a magic that is hard to decipher, yet feels totally right.
