Title: MURPHY'S ROMANCE ¥ Pers: GARNER, JAMES / FIELD, SALLY / HAIM, COREY ¥ Year: 1985 ¥ Dir: RITT, MARTIN ¥ Ref: MUR027AP ¥ Credit: [ COLUMBIA / THE KOBAL COLLECTION ]

I’m watching an “old chestnut” for this generation, Murphy’s Romance which shows a fresh Sally Field with the irrepressible James Garner (who my generation knows as “Maverick”) but my daughter would probably call an “old guy”.

However, if my daughter watched long enough, I have no doubt she would take a shine to James Garner.

This is a perfect movie to symbolize the tension of today’s Capricorn Moon which experiences the tension from Uranus (the symbol. of change). How do you tow the line, do what’s expected, but leap to your core of independence?

– this is the theme for the day.

Sometimes what feels like the old way, or the status quo needs to be tweaked.

The default mode of “marriage” is to stay in the union regardless of unfaithfulness or lack of commitment.

What contract might need reevaluation? There is no point in staying with something that does not have an egalitarian commitment.

That’s why the Sally Field character finally gives her Peter Pan husband his freedom papers in “Murphy’s Romance”.

Sometimes the more footloose option is more predictable and less interesting than the steadfast course.
