A Mars/Pluto picture in the sky intensifies any tension between warring factions.
This can be in situations that are both overt and unexpressed. It can be an actual confrontation with another person, entity or power or it can simply be within you, like facing an addiction or obsession.
If you feel yourself caught in the crossfire or have unidentified anger, resentments or a sense of injustice, this is an EXCELLENT time to address it directly, calmly and without rancor. Easier said than done.
Mars is the planet named after the god of war, desire and action. Pluto is the name of the god of death and irrevocable transformation. Pluto is considered by astrologers as the “higher octave of Mars”, or even Mars on steroids.
With Pluto, the ultimate transformation is to confront the motivation for that beefed-up passion and drive, whatever its origin. This requires self-reflection and ultimate control (which leads to conversely, a willingness to give up control = surrender).
How can that be? How can ultimate control be surrender? It goes back to Trust.
When you trust in your Divine Self, you know that is your source for ultimate control. When you let your brain attempt to control all the aspects of your life, you end up with very narrow focus or inevitable defeat.
None of us have the power to determine every turn of the curve before we take it. None of us have the ability to protect every person in our lives or dictate every thought in their heads. Sooner or later, life throws a curve.
If today does not present you with an emotional undercurrent, it may be the day that you reset your orientation to how you thought things would go in a situation that is not in your control. Reset the “how” you want things to go and concentrate instead on your continued emotional well-being.
For my audio forecast and meditation on this New Moon….
A reason that today has “superpowers for success” is the New Moon in Cancer, which occurs exactly at 9:24 p.m. ET. New Moons are charged to begin new tasks, although not always exactly on the actual day.
This Cancer New Moon has an inner engine that makes it hard to hold back if something wants to kick off. The areas of life highlighted by the sign of Cancer are: mother, roots, home, fertility, diet, sustainability and food. (The picture of the exhausted farmers is from a lovely film, Sweet Land).
As with any New Moon, your new projects may not directly reflect these themes.
A Mercury/Pluto picture in the evening drives home the need to express oneself in matters of depth; surround yourself with the people closest to you. This may also be a rich time to discuss finances, mergers and monetary goals. Discussions about insurance, wills and health care proxies may not seem romantic or intimate, and yet are doorways to our deepest fears and concerns.
Whether or not this is the subject of conversation, you can at least consider with whom you want to have this discussion and when.
This New Moon has a strong theme of rebirth and the call to be an architect of your own life. The clearer you are on your goals, the greater the spark glows for eventual success.
The Sabian Symbol** for this Cancer New Moon is “A Woman And Two Men Castaways On A Small Island Of The South Seas”. This image conjures a triangle: 3 people in 1 space and their potential for survival. However these 3 people ally themselves, whether initially as a team or with two as a couple, a triangle creates geometric tension.
This is not the case with a sound architectural structure, like a pyramid, because a pyramid has a wider base that leads to 1 point. Three people can work as a team and aim for one goal. Yet inevitably, an imbalance occurs. “3” is a creative number and a catalyst for Change.
In Tarot, “3” is the Empress, an archetypal symbol of fertility, creativity and abundance.
Stereotypically, we think of a triangle in relationship as the “other woman/man”, yet triangles occur in context other than romantic. Ideally, they stimulate growth. In a romantic triangle, the growth can occur with “pruning”, when the triangle stretches the relationships so severely that something must be severed. This can result with one person leaving or left and a couple remains, or when the entire situation shatters and everyone involved is now alone.
However, triangles also occur in work situations or naturally in a family. When the couple births a child, this creates a triangle for growth. Adjustments occur as one parent may become more focused on the child’s needs and the other feels separated. Conscious effort throughout the family’s growth allows not only the healthy development of the child but also that of the marital relationship.
The Sabian Symbol** places the triangle on an island, which intensifies the “life or death” quality of this potential. Therefore there is a “survival” aspect to this New Moon, which in the sign of Cancer harkens back to your roots.
There may be a story, memory or actual interrelating with your mother, or childhood at this time. There may be a focus on your sense of purpose, whether in work or home. How intense this feels to you reflects back to the birth horoscope; people born with strong connections to the signs of Cancer, Aries, Libra and Capricorn may feel this most acutely.
So the stress of this New Moon presents us with a catalyst, tension and stretch towards integration. The odds are that conflict may show before you get to a place of reconciliation. Conscious effort encourages successful understanding.
Explore the value in increased communication, even when difficult, unsettling or downright scary. The only way through a dark passage safely is to heighten your senses and push through any fears. Not only is there Light ahead, but Terra Firma.
As NASA probes the actual (dwarf) planet Pluto with its New Horizons, the symbolism of uncovering layers of the unknown and the unconscious is a promise for humanity in our consciousness evolution. In other words, new discoveries through astronomy provide insight through astrology interpretation.
This New Moon has a series of “good” days after it, when it bodes well to accomplish your hearts desire. This carries almost right up to the Full Moon, so be prepared to take long strides. Although Venus will soon be in retrograde, there is still plenty of fortunate symbolism around.

To make the most of any New Moon…
Sometimes doing the ritual of an abundance check helps to channel that desire to “do something”- For abundance check information…
** We are still in the process of understanding the Sabian symbols, which were channeled in 1925. The spiritualist astrologer Marc Edmund Jones, took Elsie Wheeler, a clairvoyant confined to a wheelchair to a San Diego park with a project. He put a symbol for each of the 360° of the zodiacal wheel on 360 cards. She proceeded to come up with visual phrases for each one of them. They were done in random order and they have a magic that is hard to decipher, yet feels totally right.
