New Moon Divination: Astrology 12/11/15
This Sagittarius New Moon benefits from a Venus/Neptune picture after midnight, which may color your dreams with love, romance and spiritual yearning. We certainly all benefit from love, as opposed to fear and division.
Take time to be present in the morning; a walk in the woods or any natural environment soothes the soul and awakens inspiration.
It is possible that you experience a sense of overwhelm, or a sense of longing overpowers action. This may stem from too many choices. This can lift by late morning.
Use the New Moon productively by focusing your intention on one big thing. All new moons represent new beginnings. Whatever the seeds you plant benefit from purging and planning before engaging in seed planting.
The Sagittarius New Moon occurs at 5:29 AM ET. By late morning when the moon goes void-of-course/VOC* at 11:06 AM, you find out what I mean about overwhelm, if you’ve not yet experienced it. The antidote is simple yet complicated; make a choice!
Since the moon is void-of-course/VOC* through midnight, this is a charged period to be proactive in letting go and recycling.
The Sabian Symbol for this Sagittarius New Moon at 19°2” is “In An Old-Fashioned Northern Village Men Cut The Ice Of A Frozen Pond For Use During The Summer”.
At the time this symbol arose, ice houses and iceboxes were diminishing, due to the rise in electric refrigeration. So the symbol speaks of the value of a tradition in spite of the ease to make it obsolete. There was a time when to cut ice put lives in danger and required long voyages.
Yet to cut ice today shows a desire to cooperate in the natural world, to reap satisfaction from bodily toil and to perform a sacred ritual. Consider the effort you put into a task today that may be simpler and less time-consuming than if you were to take a non-technological route. You may gain time and keep your hands clean, but is something lost in the process?
There may be no logic in choosing one option over another, but your reasons may not be purely logical. Although the symbol describes a labor-intensive way to provide refrigeration, it also presents something the purchase of a refrigerator does not give. Pride in group effort. Caretaking the pond that produces the ice. Building relationships. Upholding tradition and connection to a place.
At this New Moon, consider what land you feel an allegiance toward. It may be your place of birth, a landscape long familiar to you or a special place to which you return now and again. This physical place restores you even when you can’t venture out into it. You can close your eyes and feel the Truth of it within you. Blessed is the person who feels that sense of place in many spots on this Earth. That is a comfort level to achieve.
Since Sagittarius is also the sign linked to religion, it offers fresh perspective to evaluate what that means to you. One really only knows a religion well through study and practice. This may be a time to deepen your understanding, whether because you feel a call to a faith or want to better understand someone.
Aside to its link to our vast natural world, Sagittarius is also the sign connected to law, justice, higher education, publishing, international travel and formal religions. It represents your personal exploration through knowledge and ideally wisdom, to provide a moral compass as you strive towards success.
The image of cutting ice to shore it away for another day demonstrates a later payoff for the effort. This reflects the deepening into knowledge which is a quality of the Sagittarius New Moon.
What is it that you need to tackle over the next few weeks, year or years, that requires the application of study on your part? Is there a legal matter to embark on or a commitment to publishing that it is time to make? Perhaps you would like to travel a distance, but for now you must put the idea “on ice”.
Whatever your New Moon goal, it benefits from a group effort. But one does not have to relate to the other— for instance, you can acknowledge that it’s time to look into publishing your book, which is your individual journey. However, you can benefit from a group ritual, like a writers’ group or to do your editing/research in the library.
As always, if you know the “house” in your horoscope where Sagittarius resides, it provides additional insight as to how this New Moon works for you.
There are actually still places that go through the ritual of cutting pond ice. In the U.S., the main reasons this happens are for community bonding and heritage. Here’s one in Maine

*Moon VOC/Void-of-Course… in Sagittarius, the scope of far-flung projects deserve attention, but direction is not apparent. Consider with vigor, but make no commitments. You may also want to physically explore a location but don’t expect to find anything concrete… keep your eye on the gas tank if you go for a long ramble. More about the Moon VOC
