September 2016 Lunar Eclipse Astrology
Eclipses can be a roller coaster, and this is the third in a row of three. Confusion and slight of hand may be some themes of this eclipse.
Tempers may be short and patience nonexistent. Beware of whining and passive aggressive behavior. You do not want to engage in any potential arguments, yet it’s possible that a grievance or anger can erupt, especially in the early afternoon.
It may be useful to see any anger stirrings as fire for something you desire. Sometimes the awareness comes to us through another person who basically voices the longing or vision.
What has been brewing that may not receive the time or attention needed to cook?
You may want to acknowledge a dream, or integrate a need that has been overlooked or underserved. Once the eclipse has passed, the erratic energy should abate.
The Sabian Symbol for this Virgo Sun at 24° Virgo 20” is “A Flag At Half-Mast In Front Of A Public Building”. A flag is a symbol for an organization, ideal or country. When at half-mast, it signifies respect, mourning, distress and can even be a salute.
The position of the flag shows it’s message is sanctioned by the governing body of a people. The Sun lights the entire Moon when it’s full, but the eclipse occurs because the Earth casts its shadow on the Moon.
The Earth gets the full blast of the Sun’s message; the Moon absorbs the message through the Earth plane. In other words, we cannot escape integration of this particular message: the political is personal.
Of course, that means different things for each individual. In the United States, this is the last eclipse before the presidential election. It almost seems as though the high emotional turmoil of eclipse season might help to reveal what is the essence to each voter.
There is a sadness or reckoning for many who look to the symbols of their homeland, which stirs a desire for something else. This occurs not only in the USA, but throughout our world as borders seem to dissolve, foster separation or reject past beliefs.
Half-mast symbolizes a recognition and acknowledgment of something that affects the society associated with the flag.
It is absolutely essential to recognize whatever may cause a sense of loss within, as Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote:
“I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints”
The Virgo Sun shines light on the details of our routine— a glaring expose that questions our investment. Are we still invested in this?
Does it hold the value we thought?
Or in the light of sunlight, does it seem cheap, fake or worn-out?
The Pisces Moon’s Sabian Symbol is “A Religious Organization Succeeds In Overcoming The Corrupting Influence Of Perverted Practices and Materialized Ideals”. It is no mistake that both symbols speak to larger entities— this highlights the importance of the individual within the system.
note— I’m well-aware “Doubt” is not a film that shows success in this way, but it speaks of the slippery moral code that requires deep inner reflection.
Yet you have to claim your importance, which may for some of us, feel awkward or stressful. Pisces is the sign linked to belief without proof; it is not the sign of religions but of universal love and connectedness. Yet in tandem with the Sabian Symbol of the Virgo Sun, it has a strong message for this Eclipse.
It may be time to organize your personal belief system, especially if this Eclipse hits your horoscope. Many people say today “I’m a spiritual person, not religious”.
Yet the lack of identification with a “religious organization” may require vigilance on your moral code. Without the rules of an organization, an individual is free to carve their own code of ethics and spiritual truths. But the need to actual define this code may not happen until situations force accountability.
Be alert to anything that feels like a compromise to you: in work, relationship or an agreement. This can be subtle or hit like a 2 x 4. If it’s the former, take the information to act on in the future. On the other hand, if you have a realization that feels like a sucker-punch, delays in action may cause additional remorse. Eclipses present us with revelations, welcome or not.
The peaceful protests to support the Standing Rock Sioux‘s water and sacred ground happen at the heart of these eclipses. If the people of the USA do not band together to demand their success against “perverted practices and materialized ideals”, we all lose.

This Harvest Moon may provide a beautiful and glamorous night, unless it simply rains (which it may do since the void-of-course/voc* goes from the time of the eclipse until after midnight). Regardless, it is advisable to enjoy a low-key evening, whether you see a film, listen to music or enjoy reflective retreat.
