The Red Planet, Mars, finishes its stint in Scorpio on 9/13. For some of us this may bring a sigh of relief. When going through a direct “transit”, Mars might emulate the god of war, which can make people prickly or ferocious. We associate Mars energy with desire, passion and how you get what you want. Mars is at full strength when in the sign of Scorpio: think of hydroelectric energy that is generated by tides. The thrust of desire is a constant undercurrent.
The mitigating factor at this go-around of Scorpio Mars is that Saturn, the planet associated with limits, may have put the kibosh on Mars’ natural “full-steam ahead”. Saturn is also in the sign of Scorpio (through the end of the year) yet Mars is the faster-moving planet. As of September Mars is free of Saturn’s influence, and many people feel this personally. People with strong water (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) may experience a ripple of exhilaration or feel the push of a full-blown force of nature. Desire can be very strong, as can the determination to carry out a goal.
As I mentioned, Mars moves out of Scorpio and into Sagittarius as of 9/13. If you’re feeling that your inner engine now works without hesitation, make the most of it. Mars returns to a sign about every 2.5 years, but this journey has had the cold force of Saturn coupled with it, something that only happens every 30 years. It has the tendency to forge resolve like molten metal doused in water. Make sure you don’t get stuck in a grudge or negative holding pattern. This time can serve you well.
Once Mars is in Sagittarius, focused direction may diminish a bit, as new offerings entice. This stimulates those who are more comfortable moving from one task to another. A lightness can come into your intended goals as the ability to burn through options quickly presents itself. Not all are comfortable with this orientation for Mars; some find it distracting. One does not have to abort the mission simply because play and new ideas enter the arena. The more solid a platform you build today, the greater your comfort level when the playing field shifts. You may welcome the change if your direction has not yet solidified or if it has, see this as an opportunity to test it.
The three “generational” planets: Uranus, Neptune & Pluto are all retrograde. Pluto goes direct on the Autumn Equinox. These planets are referred to as “generational” because they move slowly and therefore entire generations have these planets in the same sign. When retrograde, the energy is said to be more internalized for those born at that time; which means it’s personal. So babies coming in now are hard-wired in a particularly interesting mix: Uranus in Aries (I am change), Neptune in Pisces (I believe what I believe) and Pluto in Capricorn (I am here to do the work of irrevocable transformation). For the rest of us, this is a period that may excite opportunities to deepen into the evolution within.
One of the Master Teachers revelations is that when we seek spiritual evolution, we might recognize that it within each one of us, we just have to embrace that reality. We are everything that we need to be; but many of us are simply not yet in touch with this truth on a moment-to-moment basis. Glimmers come and the work is to hold on to them for longer and longer periods.
Chiron is also retrograde in Pisces.
Chiron is the bridge between Saturn (the last planet of the physical realm) and Uranus (the Awakener and gateway to the transformational realm). To read more about the astrology of Chiron
The Pisces Full Moon occurs on September 8 at 9:38 p.m. ET
The Autumn Equinox is September 22 at 10:29 p.m. ET. Equinoxes occur twice a year when the Sun gives us an opportunity for a long-range perspective. Not already a Perfect Planner member? You may want to join to find out what to expect, or just sign up for the daily posts.

Uranus retrograde causes more shocks, because we can’t see what’s bubbling under the surface until it erupts. When retrograde, a planet actually seems to retrace its steps and for Uranus, this means the past several months. It will be retrograde until December 21, so you may experience a sudden move, revelation or upset during this time, especially if you’ve planets in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. Keep in mind that Uranus is known as the Awakener. Whatever happens, face it with eyes and heart wide open for the best results.
Neptune retrograde really ramps up its power in Pisces. Since its onset through this sign in early 2012, we have been invited to deepen into spiritual coexistence with our Blue Planet. As I write this I am upstate NY where the signs of an early autumn are around us. Our Earth is changing, and our ability to adapt and accommodate has everything to do with our longterm survival as a species. Meditation and personal self-awareness is not a selfish act, but one that affects everyone. When retrograde, Neptune is like an undertow, continually pulling us back into the need for reflection and reconnection with Source.
Pluto retrograde until the Autumn Equinox: More underground activity is plumbed, explored and eventually exposed. If someone or something pulls strings on your fate, revelations may occur once Pluto goes direct. Pluto has a catalyst effect as it goes direct; expect something in the news that “reveals”, especially anything about the underworld. This can overlap with financial, political, corporate or education arenas.
