winter solstice 2013Forecast 12/21

What a Winter Solstice!

Although there is a roller coaster of action in the sky, there is a “light” that ignites it. This creates a buffer because as electric as it is, there is a strong mandate to act rather than react.

Uranus (symbolizing change, the unexpected and freedom) turns Direct at 5:45 p.m. ET. This means that it seems to freeze in the sky “station” as it changes from backward to forward motion. Retrogrades are simply a change in Earth’s perspective, because our orbit occurs at a different velocity than the planets that seem to move backward and forward.

Even though Uranus is simply moving in its orbit as it always has, Earth’s symbolic orientation to it changes, therefor we experience a shift. Unfortunately, Uranus Direct often occurs in tandem with an actual seismic or world event. It is certainly valuable to send prayers and good wishes to all corners of the planet at this time. The actual degree of Uranus’ turn is 12° Aries; if you have any points in your horoscope at that degree in cardinal planets, this could be a personally upsetting time as well.

Upsets are not necessarily bad; it is how we cope with them that is important. Many countries have this point receiving a charge: prayers to allay the threats of earthquakes, Ebola and terrorism are encouraged.
Remember, the positive impact of Uranus Direct is that out-of-the-blue occurences tend to be anticipated more than a shock. You can court a change you want to make happen rather than being swept up by it.

Tropic_of_CapricornThis is the Winter Solstice, which occurs at 6:03 p.m. ET. On the heels of Uranus Direct, it calls for Action. Yet this Solstice seems to suggest a MIA quality to the work at hand. There is a longing to accomplish and to redirect, especially when considering big picture subjects, like children and education.

Rhetoric may promise sweeping changes, but the actual “how” eludes. When you consider what’s ahead of you for this turn of the Great Wheel into Capricorn, open up to spiritual guidance. There may be lots of grandiose promises. Attachments can cloud the catalyst for change, but sooner or later the grip breaks. Go inside yourself to listen for what is real.

The Capricorn New Moon follows at 8:36 p.m. ET. As the last major sky picture of the day, the New Moon is the promise. It speaks to the Brave New World that hatches from the cardinal trigger points of Uranus and Pluto. It is ignited with a mandate for transformational changes, regardless of whatever resistance continues.

A-Chippewa-ChiefThe Sabian Symbol** for this New Moon is “An Indian Chief demanding recognition”.  The symbol reminds us that the people who live with the land, the indiginous people who practiced earth-based spirituality, are those who the land sustains.

When we talk about a sustainable world, the Earth will do what she needs to do to shapeshift and recreate herself, whether or not humans survive. It’s not so much that the chief demands recognition for himself, but for the concept of the Oneness with the natural environment.

This New Moon asks that we go back to the initial seed of the creative spark; the perfection of childhood. The child who seeks, is curious and is nurtured because s/he is the future. Allow yourself a sense of a fresh start with a solid foundation. Believe it to be so.

This is a tremendously fertile New Moon to bring in new beginnings for career and long-term goals.

** We are still in the process of understanding the Sabian symbols, which were channeled in 1925. The spiritualist astrologer Marc Edmund Jones, took Elsie Wheeler, a clairvoyant confined to a wheelchair to a San Diego park with a project. He put a symbol for each of the 360° of the zodiacal wheel on 360 cards. She proceeded to come up with visual phrases for each one of them. They were done in random order and they have a magic that is hard to decipher, yet feels totally right.
